Subconscious Mind 101
March 29, 2010 | 9 Comments
Most people have heard or even spoken the word, “Subconscious” but do they really know what subconscious is?
The meaning of “sub” means below or under and when it is read together with the word conscious, it literally means below or under consciousness. So subconscious is the mind that operates below the level of your normal consciousness. Unconscious is sometimes used to substitute the word subconscious.
First and foremost, human minds are made up of two virtual parts: the conscious and the subconscious. As the word ‘virtual’ means, there’s really no way that we could separate the two minds and locate them in different parts of our bodies. It’s not possible because the mind and the body are really two different entities. Please also bear in mind that your brain is not your mind. The brain like your liver and heart is just an organ that performs numerous vital activities in sustaining your life.
The subconscious is powerful but please take note that it is not in the sense that the subconscious is better or greater than the conscious. Subconscious and conscious are both great tools only when we know how to use them wisely and correctly. Both subconscious and conscious play different roles in sustaining our lives and which also mean they both compliment each other. The subconscious can never substitute the conscious and vice-versa. For that, we could not prefer one than the other; they are just two different kind of minds that possess different strengths and usage.
The conscious mind is the part or level of your mind which are reading this article; the state where you have your full awareness. Conscious is the mind that does all the thinking and it guides you in making decision. It thinks in a logical way and thus, it possesses the ability of reasoning and very often, the solutions that come up by the conscious mind are always to serve to our best, at least in its own perception.
On the other hand, the subconscious is the part of your mind that does not possess the ability of reasoning because it could never think. Some people even refer the subconscious as the dumb mind. It makes no decision and it depends entirely on the conscious mind to feed it information. Whatever the conscious mind impress on it will be taken seriously whether it is right or wrong, good or bad. They just make no difference to the subconscious; everything looks the same and it is its job to execute them.
However, everything has its pro and con. Although the subconscious does not have the ability to think and reason, it inevitably plays an important role in maintaining human’s vitality. Subconscious is the mind that controls the blood circulating system, the digestion system, the breathing mechanism, cells rejuvenation, liver functions and every other life sustaining system that you can name. It is strong in the sense that it could control everything simultaneously without the interference from the conscious mind. Even the conscious mind can’t do that.
Besides, the subconscious is the storehouse of memory. Everything that you have seen, heard, touched, smelt or even experienced are stored in the subconscious (with an unlimited of storage capacity). And most importantly, it never fails to recall whatever that has been stored in it.
If it is any, it is the fault of the way that we organize things in our memory that make this system inefficient. That’s why educator such as Tony Buzan has come out with the Mind Mapping Tool. Knowing how to use this tool is great because it could really boast up your memory and speed up your learning process. However, you still could trace back your old memory even if you haven’t employed this magnificent tool if you know how (we shall go into that later on).
As mentioned earlier, one of the most important facts about the subconscious is its inability to differentiate between the good and bad, truth and false. Whatever you have impressed upon your subconscious will have a corresponding effect later on in your life. Thoughts and beliefs are held in the subconscious (as the role of memory storehouse) and these things are what you made of; they become the master guide for your subconscious to follow. In other word, they become the blueprint of your life.
For that, it is very important that you always watch out for your thoughts because if you don’t, negativity that offered by the mass or media will easily gain access to your mind. It is even bad if those negativities are offered by you especially during the time when you are not consciously aware of your own thinking. At this moment, every thought that you produce will bypass the conscious and access into your subconscious easily. Charles Haanel, the author of the famous “The Master Key System” once accredited the conscious mind as the “Guard at the Gates” and which he said, “Whenever the conscious drifts away, negativity slips in.”
Negativity is constant and it is your job to stand guard at the magical door of your mind because if you don’t, they will creep in and sabotage you and which you then call it fate. Learn to supercharge your subconscious mind power here.
Tapping Into The Power of Your Subconscious

Quantum Mind Power Method
There are lots of books and materials written on the subject of the power of your subconscious mind. The subconscious as in most success books and literature, is said to hold the key to your successes and failures. Every opportunity and disaster that you encounter in life is predetermined by your subconscious. In fact, more than 95% of your behaviors are not conscious, they are the results of the influences your subconscious has over you.
You can only consciously direct your life and action at about only 5% of most of the time, everything else is on autopilot. So if you can find a way to influence or make your subconscious mind to work with you instead of against you, you can pretty much do anything that you desire. The subconscious is unstoppable once you get it right, and mastering this mind equals to mastering your life.
You can put it this way, the real muscle behind your mind is the subconscious and it exerts its controls over every aspect of your life, be it physical and mental. Just like the director of a film, the subconscious mind is always working behind the scene, directing your thought and actions in the way that it wants you to go. Your subconscious is the real driver behind the vehicle of your human vessel and it always goes to the destination that it thinks you want to go and mind you, obviously it may not be your real goal.
Now can you understand why you always cannot do the things that you want or achieving the goal of your life? Are you sabotaging your life?
That’s the reason why.
Now, how can you reach to the deepest level of your subconscious so that you can have influence over it? In case if you are not aware, the subconscious stays in the alpha; the consciousness where you are in at your most relax state. You normally reach this state as soon as you wake up in the morning or just before you fall into sleep at night – it is just the time before you are 100 percent conscious.
One way to connect to you to the alpha is through brainwave entrainment program. It tunes your brain into this level of consciousness without any force and effort. Just put on the headphones and you are on your way. By the way, you can also do it without such program because meditation alone is sufficient.
However, most people who are just into the practice of meditation have one common problem; they have this ‘restless noise’ playing in their mind in loop. In such case, entering the alpha is not possible because when the mind is not quite, the subconscious will not emerge. That’s why there is a saying, “When the conscious retires, the subconscious roams the world!”
Breakthrough technology in mental science has enable scientists and researchers to come out with brainwave entrainment program where it quite the mind effortlessly and leads it into just any level that you desire. One of the best brainwave program available today is Quantum Mind Power the “Morry Method” and you can read a comprehensive critical review at Quantum Mind Power Review.
The Process of the Subconscious

Subconscious Process
Subconscious Process – As we allow negative or positive thoughts into our mind, they are stored in the brain. What we have most recently thought is in the conscious section (1).
As we continue to have thoughts, eventually the older thoughts in section 1 are pushed into the subconscious, specifically to the front of the warehouse or RAM section (A). To make room for these thoughts, the older thoughts already in RAM are then pushed into Cold Storage (B).
To access RAM thoughts, you need only have the desire to do so, and the thoughts are automatically again in the conscious section of your brain (1) for use. Access is almost immediately. The slight delay is negligible.
To access Cold Storage (B) thoughts, however, is more difficult. It takes a key to open the door. Deja Vu is an example of a key. Reminiscing with an old friend will bring up memories (thoughts) you haven’t remembered for ages. How many times have you thought or said, it’s on the tip of my tongue, yet you never quite bring a thought to the forefront? This is an example of a key to the Cold Storage area of your brain and sometimes, the key is strong enough to open the door; sometimes, it isn’t.
As negative energy builds, your thoughts, speech and actions become more negative more often in direct proportion with the negative energy inside you, as well as the negative energy surrounding you. As your negative thoughts grow, they push the positive thoughts (you used to have) into the RAM portion of the warehouse. Eventually, they are at the back of Cold Storage.
What does this do to your thoughts and internal energy?
It attracts more of the same. Eventually, any positive thoughts are long forgotten, and you seldom find a key to unlock their door. This is the effect of negative thinking, which is far reaching into your future, unless you stop it right here, right now.
To stop this snowball effect, you must change what’s inside you to positive. As you can see from the graphic, the only way to change what’s already there (negative) is to replace it with positive thoughts. You must avoid all thoughts that weaken you (negative).
To do this:
- You must become aware of your thoughts. The more you pay attention to your thoughts, the more you’ll become aware of them. Eventually, you’ll be able to stop such thoughts in your mind, before they become speech or actions.
- Each time you catch yourself thinking something negative, stop and mentally distance yourself from the thought. Why are you thinking this way?
- Replace, it with a positive thoughts.
Subconscious Mind: How It Works?

How Your Subconscious Works
Recently, I was having a discussion with my fellow friends through a private forum on the internet, and I found out that some of them do not really understand the concept of subconscious fully.
The subconscious mind is a second mind that hidden within you. Hidden here does not mean that you can’t find your mind; it just literally means that, you almost never have an immediate access to it, which unlike the conscious mind (the mind that you are reading this now). One thing that must be made clear here is your mind is not your brain. The brain is a tool that you use to think and function, while the mind is the software for that tool. So that’s also means that you can’t find both minds in any parts of your body, because they are not in the physical domain.
The subconscious mind interprets ideas or thought that hold within your conscious mind. Whatever that you think, visualize or imagine will impress upon your subconscious, which then it will act on it. The function of the subconscious mind is to attract or create the circumstances and situations that match within you. In order words, your experience is just an output of your mind, the world within you. Images from the mind equals to your physical experience. That’s why you need to always think positively and constructively.
Your conscious and subconscious mind is actually a very great team; they work hand-in-hand in creating your reality. Let’s us use an analogy. The subconscious is like the fertile soil where every seed that you plant on it, it will accept without questions. The more that you nurture it, the greater it becomes. Thoughts are the seed that you plant on the soil of your subconscious, what you think consistently forms your belief system and manifests as your reality. You reap what you sow and that’s the law.
You conscious mind on the other hand is like the gardener. It is your responsibility to choose whatever that you want to have in your inner garden; crops or weeds. So choose wisely because what you plant becomes your life and reality. Allow only positive and good seeds to enter the inner garden of your subconscious.
Charles Haanel, the author of ‘The Master Key System’ called the conscious mind as the ‘guard at the door’. If the guard dozes off, what do you think would happen? Negativity creeps in!
The subconscious does not judge, discriminate or censor. It does not possess the faculty that enables it to differentiate things and for that everything looks truth to it as long as you believe in them. It will manifest health, success and abundance just as easily as disease, failure and poverty. It works to reproduce in our life according to what we have impressed upon it. And the key concepts here are repetition and feelings; the more repetition and feelings that we link to certain thing, the subconscious will bring it to life, regardless good or bad. As said, it does not judge, and as long as you believe certain thing to be true, it will accept without question.
The World is a Synchronicity?
Once you have fully understand the concept of subconscious and how it could bring you whatever that your want, need and desire, you can start using it as your ally instead of your foe. Whatever that you have projected into your mind, consistently and emotionally; you will start realizing the same happening outside you. Events and people that ‘seem coincident’ will start appearing in your life to assist you in achieving your goals.
There is really no coincidence in this world and science has proven that. Everything has a cause and every synchronicity that happens in your life is the motion of your thoughts and the working of your subconscious. Coincidence or luck is a term used by the ‘unaware’ mind.
You can read further about the act of synchronicity in ‘Quantum Mind Power in Shaping Your Reality‘ and ‘Mind Power through Quantum Physics‘. Understanding that everything (even the whole universe) is made up of energy will make you aware of the powerful forces inside you; the invisible power of your subconscious.
Few decades ago, it might be really foolish to believe that we could create our reality through the mind process, but not any more now. Science has proved that this indeed happens, particular through the studies of quantum physics. Our thoughts being energy (it only makes sense that our repeated images, affirmations, visualizations, deeply held beliefs, fears and desires - the language of the mind), vibrating within the larger web of reality or ‘mind web‘, would have an effect upon that reality. Every thought that you broadcast is a message that you send out to the universe to bring you what you want.
In fact, we are all connected in a subtle way; and if you really think about that, how could it be otherwise?
If you are interested in the subject of synchronicity, you have better checked out Dr Deepak Chopra, ‘Synchro Destiny’. It is a very well written book that touches science, spiritual and metaphysics.

Steps To Reprogram Your Subconscious
An example of a goal or desire you may have is to gain freedom by obtaining a lot of money. You focus on just what you need to do to gain all this money, not how you will find a lack of money from trying to get rich. The best way to show this is by an example.
If you were to say to the universe, I want a lot of money but I don’t want to go broke doing it, you are telling the universe you don’t want to go broke. You are emphasizing the word broke here and that will go out to the universe and the universe will see you are vibrating the word broke. Therefore, you will become broke and stay broke. This is why you must be careful how you say it.
Instead, say something like, I want $100,000 within six months. This way you aren’t talking about being broke. You are only saying you want $100,000 in six months. The chance of your getting that money will increase proportionally to what you vibrate to.
When you take it upon yourself to attract what you want in life, you must first meditate and visualize whatever it is you want as being there in front of you. Picture it there. Visualize yourself holding it. Put emotion into it. Act as if you already own it. By doing this, all these sensations will go into your subconscious mind and will process your request.
The next step will be conclusive. Your subconscious will contact the universe through vibration and when it connects to that same vibrating source, there will be a match. At that time your subconscious mind will be in alignment with the universe and the universe will respond in kind.
When applying the power of the subconscious mind, you must consider this point. It doesn’t matter what your emotional state may be. You must learn to accept whatever thoughts or emotions you may be thinking or experiencing.
After you have initially put in your request to the universe, don’t worry about what your present situation is. You are where you are supposed to be. Even if you should have fearful or anxious thoughts come to you, do not resist them. Instead, acknowledge them in your conscious mind. Accept them and you will find they will melt away. It is only through resistance that they will stay and cause you more problems. Read more

Feed Your Subconscious Wisely
Changing your programming will not be easy at first because you may still resort back to your old beliefs. But those old beliefs will be replaced with new beliefs if you pick the right beliefs and meditate so as to have those beliefs go into your subconscious mind immediately.
When you first replace your old beliefs with new beliefs, you will have to monitor your thoughts and what you read on a daily basis so you don’t accidentally remove what you just replaced. You don’t want to reverse the procedure.
After a while, you will get into the practice of reading and absorbing only what you need to build yourself up and to work in harmony with your new beliefs. You will only take in what you need to support your new beliefs; this way you won’t be working against your new purpose.
Also remember, you must make sure all the thoughts you take in are vibrating to your inner core beliefs. If these new beliefs are in harmony and vibrate to the same frequency as the thoughts you are inputting into your conscious mind, along with the right emotions, and these thoughts go out to the universe, which is also vibrating to the same frequency, you will obtain exactly what it is you thought or wished for.
There is a word of caution here. The subconscious mind Read more
Controlling Your Subconscious Mind (Part 1)

This is a series of articles that I have prepared in regarding of controlling your subconscious mind.
Change Your Subconscious Programming
If you want to change your life and experience the fullness of life, you must FIRST change your subconscious programming. To change your programming you must control your subconscious mind so you can alter your old limiting beliefs. To do this you have to take certain steps and/or follow certain procedures that will guarantee your success if done correctly.
As you have learnt so far, everything vibrates and that’s include your thoughts. Thoughts are first established in the conscious and analyzed there. Then the thought is passed to the subconscious mind for processing, and to establish and store as a belief. Since this is the case, you have the option as to what thoughts go into your conscious and pass through your subconscious.
You have the ability to take your old, limiting beliefs, and replace them with new ones. It simply takes your effort to control what you think or what thoughts you take into your conscious mind. The way to do this would be to take in or absorb new data, data that is conducive to what you need it to be. The data you take in and enter into your conscious mind has to be a new belief that will work in harmony with the universe and vibrate accordingly.
Where can you get this data to replace?
It can come from any source you choose. But that source must work in harmony with what you are trying to accomplish. If you read something that has encouraging information or up-building data that can help you achieve greatness in your life, obviously this is the data you want to read.
Whatever you read, it must not be what you formerly read, or else you are defeating the purpose of reprogramming. The data has to be a new source that is in harmony with what you wish to accomplish in your life. An example would be a book on The Law of Attraction, or a book on meditation, or perhaps a book on how to get what you want in life. It has to be something that is up-building and will help you to progress forward to the point where you get what you set out for. Read more
